Managed to slip away from work early and got to Bigbury at around 2.30 which coincided conveniently with low tide. Rigged a 4.7 and the big wave board but changed my mind straight away when I struggled to hold on to the kit as I walked down the beach. Back to the van to rig a more sensible 4.1 and small wave board. Bumped into Spencer as I was rigging up, seems he had a good day braving high tide in a SW.

First run out and the further across the bay, the bigger the waves got. It was decision time about where to gybe, one mistake and you were punished by a 10ft wall of impending white water. Took a few runs out to get comfortable as I was very overpowered on the outside, then it was big jump time. One big jump took me very high over the pit behind the wave and I misjudged and landed very flat. After a few more runs I got nailed by a wave that broke over the front of the board as I was going up the face. Surfaced to an upside down board with an ominous crease, seems that flat landing did a lot more damage than I thought. After walking back up wind (I got pounded all the way into the River) I went for a few more tentative runs but the damage to the board was quite bad so I wrapped up for the day.
Another good day cut short by more kit damage looks like I'll be retiring that board (my first custom) after it's 9 years of faithful service. I watched the others for a bit and saw Dave from Reactive pull a neat stalled forward with an almost over rotated landing which snapped half the fin off the board!!
